Texas Greenlights $185 Million Natural Gas Plant Expansion in Midland Basin

Brazos Midstream will invest $185 million in a major natural gas processing plant in Martin County, Texas, boosting the region’s energy infrastructure.

The new Sundance II facility will process 300 million cubic feet of gas daily, doubling Brazos Midstream’s capacity across the resource-rich Midland Basin.

Governor Greg Abbott cheered the expansion, highlighting Texas’s central role in America’s energy supply and pledging continued support for sector growth through state programs like JETI.

Local leaders, including Senator Kevin Sparks, Representative Tom Craddick, and Superintendent Jan McCown, praised the project’s benefits—job creation and broader economic impact for area residents.

The Permian Basin produces a quarter of the country’s natural gas, and recent deals by Phillips 66 and Energy Transfer signal a wave of investments enhancing infrastructure.

As these projects advance, the region stands to reap lasting economic and employment gains.

Midland City Council and MISD Collaborate on Infrastructure to Support New High Schools

Midland City Council has approved a $27.5 million development agreement with Midland Independent School District to upgrade key roadways supporting new high schools.

The project targets Avalon Drive, Thomason Drive, and Wadley Avenue, aiming to ease traffic and improve safety near the new Legacy High School and Midland High School campuses, both opening August 2028.

The city will invest approximately $18.2 million, with MISD funding the remainder.

Each school will serve up to 4,200 students and is part of the 2023 bond initiative.

Some council members raised concerns about the city shouldering costs typically covered by school bonds, fearing future tax implications for residents.

Despite a close 4-3 vote, officials agreed the upgrades are vital for student safety and Midland’s anticipated growth.

The council now focuses on comprehensive funding to balance public safety and fiscal responsibility.
